NSW Life Support electricity rebate

If the life support equipment you depend on is electrically operated, you may be entitled to a rebate on your electricity account.

The electricity rebate is calculated on a daily basis and will appear on your bill as a separate line item.

Please note: You do not need to be listed as the current account holder to be eligible. The rebate will apply to the account belonging to the sole or principal place of residence of the person using the life support equipment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the rebate:

  • the life support equipment must be prescribed by a medical practitioner for the treatment of a life-threatening condition.
  • the Application for the NSW Government Life Support Electricity Rebate form which can be accessed below needs to be completed and signed by a medical practitioner and the electricity account holder.
  • the property relating to the account has to be the sole or principal place of residence of the applicant.

The following electrically operated life support equipment entitles the applicant to an electricity charge rebate:

  • home dialysis machines
  • oxygen concentrator
  • ventilators
  • total parenteral nutrition
  • Positive Airways Pressure (PAP) devices
  • phototherapy equipment
  • enteral feeding pump
  • external heart pump

You may be entitled to a higher rebate if you use a Positive Airways Pressure (PAP) device or oxygen concentrator 24 hours a day. Your medical practitioner will need to specify 24 hour use of the device on the application form to be eligible.

Application

To apply, simply print this form, and ensure it is completed and signed by your medical practitioner and the electricity account holder.

Please note: You will need to fill out a new application if you change your address. Applications must be submitted as soon as possible prior to the issue of the first account on which the rebate is claimed. Retrospective adjustments may be made.

If your circumstances change and you are no longer eligible for a life support rebate please call us on 13 14 93.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)

GST applies to the balance of your electricity account after the rebate has been deducted.
