Your responsibility
The safety and integrity of a customer's natural gas
installation (beyond the meter) is the responsibility
of the customer. You must use a licenced gas
fitter to carry out work on your natural gas installation.
When any work is carried out on your installation by a
licenced gas fitter, the licenced gas fitter must
supply you with a certificate of compliance and lodge
a copy of the certificate with the relevant local
inspection authority (ACT Planning & Land Authority in the ACT and AGL in NSW).
ActewAGL safety policy
The natural gas distribution system in the Australian Capital
Territory, Queanbeyan and Yarrowlumla shire is owned by ActewAGL Distribution
(ActewAGL) and maintained on our behalf by Jemena.
ActewAGL and Jemena are both committed to ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the natural gas distribution system. To achieve this objective, we have implemented a Safety and Operating Plan containing our policies and procedures, to ensure the reliability and safe operation of our natural gas distribution system.
The Safety and Operating plan has been established as our primary (quality) management system and is the basis by which we will fulfil our obligations to the community.
This Safety and Operating plan demonstrates our commitment to ensure that the activities of ActewAGL
and its contractors' activities are conducted in a manner which guarantees the
safety of the public, natural gas customers, employees, our contractors' employees
and the environment.
What to do in case of a hazard
If you observe a leak or a potential hazard in our natural gas network
please call 13 19 09, ActewAGL's emergency telephone number, and we will
respond and repair the leak or hazard.
We ensure a high standard of commitment to our environment. Our natural gas is produced, piped and delivered using rigorous environmental and safety standards, practiced throughout the industry.
To ensure you do not cause damage to our network whilst digging near natural gas mains and services, you are advised to utilise our "dial before you dig" service by calling 1100.
Dial Before You Dig is a one-call operation, funded by utility organisations in Australia who own underground services. It enables you to make one call to determine which organisations have underground facilities in the area you are planning to dig.
Call 1100 two working days prior to excavation. Service operators are available between 8.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
