You needn't be a superperson to save water

Play the water saving game

Everyone shares the responsibility of making sure that the community will have sufficient drinkable water in the future. It isn't hard to take a few steps to save water around the home.

In 2001, households in NSW and the ACT used more water in total than any other Australian state or territory. However, when amount of water used in NSW and the ACT were divided by the number of people, each on average used less water than anyone else in Australia!

Check out these simple ideas and remember practice makes perfect - make saving water a habit.

  • Save water in the bathroom - 75 per cent of the water used in homes is used in the bathroom.
  • Save water in the kitchen - the amount of water used in the kitchen can fill half a swimming pool in a year!
  • Save water in the laundry - wasted water in the laundry can amount up to 114 litres or more. That's like flushing the toilet 19 times in a row!
  • Save water throughout the house - whether keeping a fish or watering a pot plant, there are plenty of ways through your home to make water work harder for you.
  • Save water in the garden- it is estimated that up to half of the water used in homes goes straight into swimming pools or to water thirsty plants, including grass and weeds.
