Create an object made from recycled materials
Did you know that making recycled paper instead of new paper uses, on average, 64 per cent less energy and 58 per cent less water?
Using old and recycled goods reduces the energy and resources that it would take to produce a brand new item. It can also cut down the amount of pollution and waste associated with packaging and transportation.
ACT and Queanbeyan primary school students have the chance to win one of seven $50 vouchers to spend at the Australian Geographic shop. All you need to do is tell us the best object you have made out of old or recycled materials and how you made it. Here are some ideas to get you started.
- Paper mache animal models or masks.
- Quilts or blankets made out of old fabric or clothes.
- Musical instruments made from old flower pots.
- Birdhouses made from old milk containers.
- Necklaces made from old milk bottle caps and Christmas or birthday cards.
- Coasters made from old margarine container lids, greeting cards, postcards, fabric and magazines.
- Kites made from old shopping bags and pieces of fabric.
