Growth of biomass energy use

As many countries start to use more renewable energy in their homes and businesses, more and more people are paying attention to how they can use biomass to meet their energy needs.

Scientific research into energy generated from biomass is focusing on several areas:

  • The amount of energy that can be produced.
  • "Clean" and efficient combustion processes to minimise greenhouse emissions.
  • New and more efficient bioconversion technologies.
  • Advanced techniques to change simple organic chemicals into more complex fuels, such as changing methane into petrol.
