Bioconversion
Bioconversion involves converting plant and animal waste into fuels such as methanol, natural gas or oil. Gas from sewage is being used to generate electricity in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.
In Canberra there are two power plants that use biogas (methanol) collected from waste management plants to generate electricity.
Other technologies have been developed to use bioconversion processes to produce fuels such as methanol, ethanol, and oil from plant and animal wastes. These may be used as transport fuels or for generating electricity.
